Relocation - The Local Information You Need

Estate Agents

There a number of estate agents in Malta. It seems that property owners list them with many agents simultaneously.  Therefore, it can get a little awkward if you sign up with many agencies as they will all be trying to show you the same properties.

It is recommended that you sign up with one or two agencies to begin with and once you have exhausted their resources, try another.

Make a note of the addresses of the properties you have seen so you can be sure you will not view the same property twice with different agents.

For a list of a few agents, please refer to our links page.

Language

Transport

Air

Malta´s airport is located in the south of the island.  www.maltairport.com.

Taxi

There are white taxis which are the local licensed taxis, or you can book private taxis through a variety of firms.   Wembleys is a popular private taxi firm with very reasonable prices (Tel: 21374141).  Their taxi fleet mainly consists of old style Mercedes.

Buses

The buses are cheap and are a sight to see in themselves as most of them are classic vehicles.

Car Hire

There are a number of car hire firms from where you can book a variety of vehicles for the day, or for a duration.

Buying a Car

The cost of buying a car is quite expensive as all cars are imported into Malta.  Before considering buying a car you should have found yourself a place to live and a job.  You will then know what benefit a car can bring you.  Bear in mind that parking is always difficult in Malta and can be a real hassle.  If you are intending on being in Malta for a short time (a year´s contract for example), consider the buses and taxis as an alternative to buying a car.

Number Plates

All public transport vehicles (buses and taxis) have the letter Y at the end of the first half of the number plate.

All car hire vehicles have the letter K at the end of the first half of the number plate.

The ADT is the transport authority in Malta. For further information visit their site www.maltatransport.com.
